BT Sport’s industry-first innovation during lockdown enabled the broadcaster to deliver not only many new episodes of existing popular shows, but also brand new shows specifically launched in lockdown. These shows, which were aired live despite the challenges of all crew and talent being home-based, included: Early Kick Off, Rugby Today, Scottish Football Extra, The Footballs On, Moto GP The Greatest Race, The Beautiful Quiz, FIFA Challenge and UEFA Champions League Throwbacks.
It moved all key parts of the broadcast operation (production galleries, edit resources, EVS, compliance and MCR) entirely onto a virtual set-up capitalising on BT’s world-class broadband and mobile networks – meaning technical staff were able to shoot, edit and playout shows remotely. Long term, BT Sport is committed to taking the best learnings from this current situation to make positive, long term changes to ways of working. The strategy also enabled BT Sport to remain true to its fan-first brand: relevant, vibrant and engaging thanks to the experiences and innovations.
