The 76ers and Devils Buy Black Program was developed to promote local, Black-owned businesses and provide them with expert marketing consultation, advertising value, educational programs and additional tools to succeed. Participating businesses became eligible for other resources such as grant opportunities, assistance accessing Payroll Protection Program loans, networking events, and future Devils’ business programs.

Through these programs the 76ers and Devils successfully amplified Black-owned small businesses in their respective markets in efforts to implement equitable change within each community. By leveraging the teams’ respective platforms to both develop long-lasting business strategies and encourage the community to invest and engage with local businesses, the program provided participating companies with equitable growth and long-lasting consumer relationships while encouraging local investment for the respective communities’ economies.

Both the 76ers and Devils worked closely with local government nonprofits and the local African American Chambers to identify over 700 local Black-owned businesses and provided information and training on PPP for businesses that applied. In addition, the 76ers and Devils referred businesses to The Enterprise Center, a local nonprofit, for a $500K grant program, resulting in Buy Black applicants making up over 80% of companies funded through the program.

As part of HBSE’s greater commitment to Diversity and Inclusion efforts, the Buy Black Program exists to give back to the communities that drive both the 76ers and Devils success season after season. The continued vision is to continue to provide these communities with the power to grow from within, starting at the heart of these communities, small businesses. Over the course of five years, 76ers and Devils will contribute a combined $5 million, as both teams continue to expand the program in order to empower diverse small businesses and their communities within their respective markets.
