The sun sets on the inaugural Sport Performance Summit in Chicago

Leaders Sport Performance Summit, Chicago

The Sport Performance Summit touched down in Chicago this week for its very first edition in the Windy City at Solider Field. The global event welcomed 250 Head Coaches, General Managers, Technical Directors, Performance Directors and other senior performance practitioners, from some of the most forward thinking organisations around the world. The two day agenda brought together expert performance speakers from sport, the military, politics, academia and the performing arts, to offer attendees new and innovative perspectives on high performance which can be implemented in professional sport.

This years’ speaker line-up saw some of the best performance experts from sport and beyond take to the stage at Soldier Field. Day one kicked off with Stuart Lancaster offering a fascinating insight into his time as Head Coach of the England men’s national rugby union team. Next up, the Major of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, took to the stage to discuss leading in the White House and the Windy City. The opening day concluded with General Lori Robinson, Commander at the United States Northern Command, where she offered the audience a different outlook on leading in extreme circumstances.

Alex Mack, NFL Player at the Atlanta Falcons and Dave Anderson, Former NFL Wide Receiver and Chief Experience Officer at Gains Group opened day two, delivering a presentation on the use of data and analytics. Mike Brey, Head Coach, University of Notre Dame and Matt Painter, Head Coach, Purdue University then joined a panel to discuss what it takes to lead and inspire a team of future sporting stars. In the afternoon, the audience heard from Michael Platt, Director & Professor from the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative, he expanded on the intangible world of team chemistry in order to offer some practical tips and cues that coaches can look out for.

The Summit brought together senior performance practitioners from all around the world to learn, develop and knowledge share with each other. 2017 attendees included Director of High Performance, Philadelphia Eagles; Sporting Director, Liverpool FC; High Performance Director – Winter Sports, United States Olympic Committee; Director of High Performance, Toronto Blue Jays; Quarterbacks/Wide Receivers Coach, Green Bay Packers; Assistant Coach, Miami Heat; Chief Scout, Manchester United FC; VP Talent Development, WWE; Director of Human Performance, Hendrik Motorsport; Head of the Athletic Performance Dept, San Antonio Spurs; Director of Basketball Operations, Sacramento Kings and Assistant Director of Baseball Operations, Chicago Cubs.
