  • There is a growing influence and focus on mindfulness and mental training techniques, and using them to help athlete build mental resilience and grit, as well as supporting them in managing expectations and self-compassion.
  • We’ll use this session to discuss the state of play in the mental side of high performance sport, and learn from leaders and practitioners who have successfully implemented meditation and mindfulness practices, and how that has helped the development and performance of elite athletes.

Skills Session: Leading Innovation and Effective Problem Solving

Discover More >

  • We want to ensure there are opportunities to interact and share insights with your fellow attendees throughout the summit. With this in mind, we’ll be using this time to reflect on the learnings from the previous session, and give you the opportunity to unpack them with the peers around your table.
  • We’ll also use the insights from the sessions so far, alongside some research and skills based learning exercises, to delve into the theme of Leading Innovation and Effective Problem Solving.
  • Here’s what to expect – while some people may be more naturally creative, it is a skill we can all build and develop like a muscle. Our brain’s tendency is to create rules about the world around us, which means our existing knowledge and experience can undermine our ability to see new possibilities. In this session, we will introduce five techniques we can use to help us look at challenges from a fresh perspective and generate new options to overcome problems and think innovatively.

  • Just like on Day 1, we will structure an interactive session as a follow on from the conversation around the world of healthcare and how it compares and intertwines with high performance in professional sport. As before, this will act as a space and opportunity for you, the attendees, to reflect with peers around your tables on the key reflections from the session.

  • Across all sports, we’re hearing more and more about the importance and need for character development with young athletes, and a need for athletes to feel connected to the culture at a team to feel they want to perform and win. We’ll ask and explore the very simply question – how prevalent is this in basketball?

A Life After Playing: Effectively Transitioning to An Off The Court Career

Discover More >

  • It’s a moment in every athletes life that is inevitable, but on the most-part one that is daunting. However, approached and prepared for in the correct way, a life off the court, pitch, or field can be a prosperous one. As they say, as one door closes, another one opens.
  • We’ll gather a panel who have been through this transition, and explore when and how they managed transitions well, and when it has been challenging.
  • When you can engage in mentoring, learn from others, and have great support, you have time to understand what you need based on your values, and understand what is right for you.
  • It’s important to recognize the ending of one chapter and embracing the start of something new, and the importance of understanding our identity and how that impacts our transitions. Ensure you have a support system round you to help you cope with transitions, as they’re key people to support you in processing the emotions and manage the phase effectively.
