In this virtual roundtable we wanted to gain insights into the latest high performance thinking, and what innovations are coming to the fore. What trends are we noticing that are either impacting or could potentially impact performance, what are we trialling and testing and, finally, what do we expect to see come to fruition in the next 12-18 months?<\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The group discussed:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The importance of performance modelling in the innovation process.<\/li>\n<li>Education is an innovation.<\/li>\n<li>Instead of thinking about the 1%, innovating and fine tuning the other 99% can be much more effective.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Recommended Reading: Leaders Performance Institute<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leadersinsport.com\/performance\/friscos-finest-49ers\/\">Summit Session: Paraag Marathe on Frisco\u2019s Finest<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leadersinsport.com\/performance\/creating-culture-innovation\/\">Creating a Culture of Innovation<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leadersinsport.com\/performance\/finding-ways-to-integrate-technology\/\">Finding Ways to Integrate Technology<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Key Thinking Points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It all starts with performance modelling.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u2019s crucial to understand and start with structure \u2013 what does it take to win in your sport? Become more strategic in how you think about innovation rather than being attracted to what\u2019s new and hot.<\/li>\n<li>Are those innovations aligned to what the sport needs \u2013 it\u2019s important to think a lot smarter around performance modelling to identify gaps.<\/li>\n<li>In a number of Olympic sports, there\u2019s been a focus on power outputs and how to become more efficient.<\/li>\n<li>Likewise, football is seeing the presence of GPS systems which can track kicking velocity.<\/li>\n<li>In the world of circus art, there is some interesting work going in with regards to GPS and movement tracking that can be calculated indoors.<\/li>\n<li>There is more research being conducted into travel across time zones and how performance can be affected by this.<\/li>\n<li>Culture should not be overlooked even when thinking about performance modelling. Is innovation organic in your culture?<\/li>\n<li>Profiling performance to be more sport specific is a trend \u2013 for example combining physical and technical parameters to provide a more holistic understanding.<\/li>\n<li>Profiling in this way also fosters a more collaborative and disciplinary working approach as the different departments have the ability to impact the player in a more all-rounded manner.<\/li>\n<li>Profiling in circuit art is considered on a singular level \u2013 whether that is an individual athlete or an individual act.<\/li>\n<li>There\u2019s becoming more and more profiling: mental, wellness, physical, medicine and also performance \u2013 the challenge is better linking them together and creating a more uniformed approach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. Combing innovation &amp; education<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We can also be innovative in how we think about education \u2013 especially with our athletes. Organisations are working on how athletes take on information to then allow the performance team to better understand how to then deliver information.<\/li>\n<li>Have you considered innovating around your own performance? For example, mic\u2019ing yourself up to better understand how you act in game time as well as the players.<\/li>\n<li>What are we measuring and how can we better impact the athletes?<\/li>\n<li>Data and feedback are just tools to lead to a subjective conversation.<\/li>\n<li>The coaching and leadership aspect is often left out of a lot of human performance-related streams \u2013 can you be innovative in your thinking in order to support this?<\/li>\n<li>Innovation can be doing the basics right \u2013 that often gets overlooked.
