The results of the participants were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strongly agree \u2013 9\/24 (37.5%)<\/li>\n<li>Agree \u2013 12\/24 (50%)<\/li>\n<li>Neutral \u2013 3\/24 (12.5%)<\/li>\n<li>Disagree<\/li>\n<li>Strongly disagree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A recent poll of 1000 CEOs presented these results on the same question:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pre-pandemic, 26% agreed with this statement.<\/li>\n<li>Post-pandemic, 87% agreed with this statement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Some \u2018learning organisation\u2019 definitions<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Learning organisations are where people continually expand their capacity to create the results they truly desire (Senge, 91). The two key words in this definition are capacity and results \u2013 it has a strategic lens.<\/li>\n<li>A learning organisation facilitates learning of all its members and its aim is to continuously transform itself (Pedlar 1991).<\/li>\n<li>Does your organisation flock together? Birds that flock together appear to learn faster and increase their chances to survive and evolve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Learning organisation vs. organisational learning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Learning organisations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are performance-based<\/li>\n<li>Strategic-focused<\/li>\n<li>Supportive of learning environments<\/li>\n<li>Provide concrete learning processes and practices<\/li>\n<li>Use leadership to reinforce learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Organisational learning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is process-focused<\/li>\n<li>Enables individual-based learning<\/li>\n<li>Learning on the job<\/li>\n<li>Is theory-based<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Five factors of learning organisations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Shared vision:<\/strong> engage your entire team. Compromise. Ownership.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Systems thinking:<\/strong> observe the entire system. Trends. Integrated solutions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mental models:<\/strong> visualise the future. Scenario testing. Adapt faster \/ risk taking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Team learning:<\/strong> are we on track? \u2018Periodised\u2019 learning. high trust.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal:<\/strong> mastery, continual professional development. Tension &#8211; reality and vision. Thirst to close \u2018gap\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Score your organisation out of 5 against each area (1 = we don\u2019t do it. 5 = we are awesome).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Where are you performing well?<\/li>\n<li>Where are your biggest opportunities?<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s missing from the model?<\/li>\n<li>What would you add\/take away?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Breakout feedback and additional thoughts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We don\u2019t know anyone that does all of these five factors well \u2013 there are examples of those that perhaps do three of them well. It is always a work in motion. These factors have to be organised with a leadership model or the behaviours of the leaders that sit behind it.<\/li>\n<li>Big opportunities sit around the retention of staff and upskilling of staff \u2013 some organisations are making a concerted effort around personal development.<\/li>\n<li>How are people playing their role in these factors and being validated along the way? Most people want to belong and be a part of something, whilst being recognised within that.<\/li>\n<li>In this sense, things are highly contextual. A shared vision is something that a lot of organisations do quite well. In terms of opportunities, systems thinking and team learning are up there. With systems thinking, a lot of organisations have a tendency, particularly when highly focused on performance, to not prioritise learning the same way, instead favouring performance \u2013 not seeing the forest through the trees. With team learning, it tends to be reactive instead of strategic \u2013 how many organisations have a coherent learning system?<\/li>\n<li>Belonging: a huge part of creating a learning environment and psychological safety.<\/li>\n<li>Quality review: something that feeds into both the systems thinking and mental modelling. When do you review, how often and how are you measuring?<\/li>\n<li>Storytelling: a powerful concept when considering team vision, but also how it feeds into other ideas such as reviewing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>As part of our series on learning, there are another three sessions taking place in November through to the beginning of December.
