Hello. Kia Ora. Anyeong Haseyo! We all hope you\u2019re doing well, wherever you are in the world. We\u2019ve returned from Texas, full of new insights as well as some outstanding BBQ food, after hosting our most recent Leaders Meet event last week.<\/h6>\n

Looking ahead, we have some exciting news \u2013 we\u2019re heading back to Melbourne in February 2024 for our second event on Australian soil, following the success of this year\u2019s edition. Want to join us? All the info here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And in the not-so-distant future, we\u2019re celebrating Pride Month by hosting a pop-up event as part of our Diversity Series. It\u2019s on Friday 30 June at Amazon\u2019s London Office. All the info here<\/a> if you\u2019d like to come along.<\/p>\n

1. Matt \u2013 what happened in Texas last week? \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, we were truly spoilt by our hosts the Texas Rangers, and by the insights from all our speakers across the two days. You can find two sets of takeaways here<\/a> and also here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alongside that, our Main Event Partners EPIC Risk Management ran a brilliant working lunch, Elite Performance Partners delivered a superb Performance in Practice, and Keiser hosted a hugely insightful Women\u2019s Sport Breakfast. Additionally, Abilene Christian University (alongside Keiser), and with the help of the Rangers, hosted us for their game versus the St Louis Cardinals \u2013 what a stadium, and what an experience.<\/p>\n

Thanks to all involved for bringing energy, openness, and brilliant conversation.<\/p>\n

2. What does the term \u2018soft skills\u2019 mean?<\/strong><\/p>\n

They\u2019re interpersonal skills. Leadership skills. But let\u2019s stop calling them \u2018soft\u2019 and call them \u2018real skills\u2019 instead<\/a>.

\n3. How do you build a strong learning culture?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Looking at the principles of the Universal Design Framework<\/a> is a pretty good place to start.<\/p>\n

4. <\/strong>How can you use data to innovate?<\/strong><\/p>\n

With so much data and so many metrics these days, it can be hard to know where to start. Here are some tips from IDEO on how to use data to uncover opportunities for innovation<\/a> and better understand people and problems \u2013 including the first thing you should do before any data analysis.<\/p>\n

Theme of the week: Conflict and trust<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m going to try to start to theme this middle part of the Digest around a different performance problem or challenge each week, depending on the trends of content I\u2019m seeing.<\/p>\n

First up, a look at how you manage conflict<\/a>. Most of the time, it\u2019s a negative, as tension in a team can be bad for culture and bad for performance.<\/p>\n

But how do you turn it into a positive? Well, conflicting ideas can sometimes make strategies stronger.<\/a> And when defused proactively<\/a>, it can be nipped in the bud and the status quo can resume.<\/p>\n

But returning to the status quo can only happen if there is a culture of trust<\/a>, which all starts with psychological safety \u2013 something that high performing teams need every single day<\/a>.<\/p>\n
