Creative<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Discussion Points<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For organisations that are nomadic, or have less regular interaction with staff and players, virtual communication will be maintained.<\/li>\n<li>More emphasis and time will be given to strategic conversations, that may otherwise have been little too ad hoc in-person passing discussions.<\/li>\n<li>Organisations will need to think about how they manage staff working time to avoid mental health challenges and burn-out, given that technology and remote working means you are on call 24\/7.<\/li>\n<li>Staff will need to be 100% clear on their message and how to deliver that message if there is less face-to-face time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To help support and motivate players and staff if there are no supporters, organisations may look to:<\/p>\n<p>1. Capitalise upon the fact that it will be an even playing field for everyone, with support influence removed.<\/p>\n<p>2. Focus on the individual and their motivations to get the best out of the player and avoid lack of supporters affecting performance and motivation.<\/p>\n<p>3. Focus more on the player feeling supported, safe and cared for by the organisation, meaning there will be a greater buy-in and desire for the player to perform.<\/p>\n<p>4. Understand and capitalise upon players who might thrive more from a lack of pressure that supporters can bring.<\/p>\n<p>5. Focus on very specific goals that hone performance and turn up the volume on other motivations.<\/p>\n<p>There will be more of a need for \u2018generalists\u2019 vs. \u2018specialists\u2019 with less budget and resource available, with external experts brought as and when they are needed:<\/p>\n<p>1. Will \u2013 therefore \u2013 expectations grow on generalists that to achieve the same level of performance, impact or output of specialists will have to work longer and harder, potentially creating mental health challenges.<\/p>\n<p>2. There will be a need to check-in more regularly if less resource and more dispersed, to ensure consistency of message and mission.<\/p>\n<p>3. Investment in psychology and psychologists may increase to support the impact of more generalist roles.<\/p>\n<p>4. To support working with less resource, teams may look to make certain processes, training protocols more efficient by adopting current ways of working e.g. some training done remotely via Zoom etc.<\/p>\n<p>With less resource and budgets, organisations will need to have the right procedures and thought processes in place to make decisions on investment in technology, people etc.<\/p>\n<p>1. Priority will be given to what directly improves the player and fits with the organisation\u2019s values.<\/p>\n<p>2. If \u2018it\u2019 is proven to shift the dial for the player, staff or department and,importantly, the organisation, it will be prioritised.<\/p>\n<p>3. Athlete feedback will become more important and more time given to evaluate the impact.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Winning the Innovation Game<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Be a challenger, not the challenged: focus on what you can control. Think radical.<\/p>\n<p>2. Build a brains trust: get everyone thinking.<\/p>\n<p>3. Fire bullets. Then cannonballs: test and learn. Scientific approach to \u2018what it takes to win\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>4. Mistrust success. Never stop pushing for more: only the paranoid survive.<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Attendee Takeaways<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How will we decide what we\u2019ll keep or not?<\/p>\n<p>1. Parents \/ Player feedback<\/p>\n<p>2. Staff feedback<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHow do we know if people are better off?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Challenge and test even if we are not sure about the outcome.<\/li>\n<li>Reassessing efficiency within staff and across the performance of the organisation.<\/li>\n<li>If we are going to spend less time face to face, make sure the time spent together is quality, organised and structured.<\/li>\n<li>With fewer specialists clear communication becomes even more important.<\/li>\n<li>What we are doing is it quantifiable?
