Good to hear from respective individuals in the group away from the staff.<\/li>\n<li>During this period, are you using this as an opportunity to pressure test your culture?<\/li>\n<li>How can you create a platform for players of differing experiences to share with each other?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><b>1. Group Challenges\u00a0<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How do we create new stimulus for Gen Z athletes?<\/li>\n<li>How do we know tasks are being done, and athletes are learning from it?<\/li>\n<li>How to make learning visible and keep players engaged?<\/li>\n<li>How are organisations staying flexible and doing their best to reach the\u00a0athletes?<\/li>\n<li>Bridging the intensity level between and competition.<\/li>\n<li>Mental health support now that the first \u2018cycle\u2019 is over.<\/li>\n<li>What do we need to focus on today to take advantage of this \u2018opportunity\u2019?<\/li>\n<li>Finding the balance between the situation we\u2019re in vs.empathy with the athletes that we have and the situation they\u2019re in.<\/li>\n<li>How do we keep the main thing, the main thing? Staying on task and not being distracted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><b>\u00a02. How do you make sure<\/b><\/strong><strong><b> you\u2019re really connecting to your athletes\/staff? And that mental health is acknowledged in this process<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How can the players develop a new skill in this lockdown period, but be wary of not wavering away from their strengths? Is there any physical component they can work on?<\/li>\n<li>What constraints are there? From a virtual perspective, ask the athlete what topic they would like to learn about and as a coach go away to create some content. Then you can have a discussion about it with the athlete.<\/li>\n<li>Design a 30-day mental skills programme: They have one mindfulness activity per day to engage with and complete. Talking about the relationship with fear, which in turn will support the mental health piece \u2013 which is obviously different to mental performance.<\/li>\n<li>Periodise what was likely to happen \u2013 end of COVID vs. start of competition. What can you do within your house and your environment now, that will make an impact when you get back? Giving the players some time to breathe to begin with, then help them along the way.<\/li>\n<li>Find your feet. 2. Reflect. 3. Learn.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the relationship between staff and players still exists. The impact of the first time they see each other is going to be a big moment. How to manage that situation? How do we prepare for it to happen?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. How do <\/strong><strong><b>we get the athletes and staff back and ready to perform straight away?<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When you are back, it won\u2019t come as a surprise. You won\u2019t be told on the Sunday evening you\u2019ll be back in on Monday morning. You will have a time period to plan for that, so that\u2019s crucial to focus on.<\/li>\n<li>The mind doesn\u2019t forget things too easily, so re-educating them around the extraordinary things they can do as world class athletes is important (both physically and from an intensity perspective).<\/li>\n<li>Try creating an exercise for the athletes so they can visualise being <em><i>that <\/i><\/em>player again.<\/li>\n<li>Try comparing this scenario to when they\u2019ve had injuries \u2013 it\u2019s the same process. Look at the positive. You aren\u2019t going to be \u2018deskilled\u2019, so emotional re-engaging is very important.<\/li>\n<li>If there has been an apathy in the virtual culture of the team, this may have coincided with a lack of interest in the performance staff. Come up with a phrase for athletes to buy into. \u2018Win the Wait\u2019 is one \u2013 if you can use this time better than any of the other teams, then you\u2019ll start well. You may notice a huge uptake in engagement.<\/li>\n<li>Intensity level jump \u2013 how do you ensure these players can get back to high performance? Certain positions are more demanding than others, so it will take a longer time to get back to the correct level and intensity. So the return to play plan is so integral.<\/li>\n<li>Getting players back healthy and back to a physical condition where they aren\u2019t going to get injured is difficult, but so important. The risk of injury will be higher, do you make your squads\/rosters larger to guard against that?<\/li>\n<li>Maybe this is an opportunity to question what exists now, instead of accept it because it\u2019s the way it\u2019s always been done. <em><i>\u2018Recommended reading on this topic: The Obstacle is the Way, Ryan Holiday\u2019<\/i><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. Additional Supporting Material<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><b>The 4 \u2018P\u2019s<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><strong><b>1. Purpose (the why)<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cCovid-19 means we can\u2019t be together physically. We need to continue to develop as a team. The risk is we hit pause, stay as we are, or lose ground. We want to be the most cohesive team out there\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <b>Picture (the what)<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to be the most cohesive team in the league when this situation is resolved. We\u2019ll be well-placed to start fast and achieve our ambitions\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. <b>Plan (the how)<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s how we\u2019re going to do it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shape individual plans together.<\/li>\n<li>Weekly one-to-ones, peer group meets every three days and weekly full squad reviews.<\/li>\n<li>We\u2019ll post-progress against plans to the team page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><\/b><strong><b>4. Part (the who)<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s what you can expect from me\u2026 I\u2019ll be checking in every week against our plans. I\u2019ll be updating you. I\u2019m here to support.
