In this session we turned to the US Air Force\u2019s Nellis Training Base in the heart of the Nevada to explore how they coach coaches, prepare their talent for pressurised and intense environments, skill development and best practices in coaching individuals and teams.<\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Key Takeaways<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We do endless amount of planning and training on how to mission plan appropriately, to help people execute successfully.<\/li>\n<li>We have a strong culture of the debrief in the fighter pilot community. Debriefs can be from 4-7 hours long. Create and recreate the environment.<\/li>\n<li>Service before self \u2013 you take your rank off during debrief so you can hold each other accountable.<\/li>\n<li>When it comes to coaching coaches, we take it to another level. It\u2019s something we focus on a lot and create opportunities for them to get out of their own bubble.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Thinking Points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The relationship between individual skill coaching and team coaching: In team sports, there is the need to take a more holistic approach, especially with additional challenges such as the inclusion of sports science, and psychological and technological language.<\/li>\n<li>Are you creating opportunities for your coaches to get out of their own bubble and coach in different sports and diverse environments? This can be a useful exercise to expand their skillsets and impact how they coach.<\/li>\n<li>What additional skillsets and knowledge will the coach of the future need that don\u2019t exist today and how do we develop them?<\/li>\n<li>Have you considered the mental capacity to handle pressure? The body can only tolerate so much physically, and the mind has a limit as well.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a robust understanding of how you perform under stress and your understanding of perceptual distortion.
