In this session we explored how the organisation managed to build a winning team with an exceptional culture in such a short time. Alongside this we collated insights into data-driven decision-making, preventing silos and combatting organisational complacency after success.<\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Key takeaways:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A blank page approach has obvious advantages but there are challenges that come with it. Mitas, with his Formula One background, confessed he was shocked by what he saw during Porsche\u2019s initial World Endurance Championship races in 2014. Wiggers, meanwhile, pointed to the specific challenge of ensuring a racing mindset \u2013 fast development, quick decisions \u2013 chimed with the naturally more cautious corporate mindset of a world-leading road car manufacturer.<\/li>\n<li>Nurturing a winning and an innovative culture is not the work of a moment. As Wiggers put it: \u201cYou don\u2019t need a PowerPoint presentation to explain culture,\u201d adding \u201ceveryone tells you what it\u2019s supposed to be like, but in daily life it\u2019s always different. We strongly believe as an organisation that you need to figure out what a person\u2019s talent is to help them grow.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The same team that guided Porsche to Le Mans glory is now working on the manufacturer\u2019s new Formula E programme \u2013 and those same team members actively contributed to the decision to withdraw from the World Endurance Championship. Know when to quit. \u201cWe helped drive the process of stopping this,\u201d Wiggers confirmed, while Mitas added: \u201cNow it\u2019s the same group of people with a new challenge, rather than a blank sheet of paper.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Thinking Points:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It\u2019s crucial to get your organisational environment right. Porsche managed to become a fully functioning team in a very short time, creating a strong collective mindset and alignment around performance goals teaches the organisation to act like winners before they were winners.<\/li>\n<li>Organisations that remain high performing have more often than not found a formula to battle complacency. Follow the mantra that is driven by the idea that something can always be done better.<\/li>\n<li>To be a high performing or successful team, there has to be collective trust and freedom that we can be successful doing it our way. Challenge your team and empower them to air their opinions, this will only positively impact the process of collaboration.<\/li>\n<li>To maintain motivation, ensure that targets are realistic and tangible. If you are not setting high enough targets, you will settle down to a more medial target and you will achieve that. If it is unrealistic for you or carries a slight doubt if the target is set too high, you will be demotivated by not reaching the target. It\u2019s crucial to find the right balance.<\/li>\n<li>Successful teams are able to see both successes and setbacks as an opportunity. In these instances, value collaboration and encourage \u2018post-mortem\u2019 processes.
