We explored themes such as how to create a high performance culture and environment, empowering talent, big game tactics and strategies and in general what are some of the innovative processes and systems for coaching and developing talent in the modern landscape.<\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Key takeaways:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Injury message management \u2013 internally and externally \u2013 is vital. It says much about the tightness and togetherness of a team if you can retain crucial information about a star player\u2019s health until an hour or so before kick-off. Unwilling to pass on any pressure, Robinson chooses not to tell either his chairman or partner his team selection in advance.<\/li>\n<li>The Roosters squad demonstrated an adaptable mentality earlier in the season when the team was struggling, having adopted what Robinson called a \u201cstructured\u201d style. The best way to describe a structured style, he explained, is delivering a wedding speech word for word from a script.<\/li>\n<li>His preferred system-based approach can be likened to delivering that same speech using only bullet points as a reference.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cYou learn early in the week\u201d, Robinson explained, outlining that the Roosters coaching staff want initial messaging to go to the front of the brain on Monday or Tuesday prior to a game, in the hope it will enter the sub-conscious by the weekend. That\u2019s particularly important during the week of a final when extraneous elements, such as tickets for family and friends and media commitments, can create clutter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Thinking Points:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Within your organisation, everyone needs to have a sense of belonging and importance, not just your athletes. In rugby league\u2019s case it\u2019s not just 17 players and a coach. The world doesn\u2019t work like that, it\u2019s about the collective performance of your organisation.<\/li>\n<li>In aspiring to create a high performance environment, you have to be prepared to invest and be consistent every single day to create a meaningful and powerful connection. Ask yourself the question if you are committed to driving even the smallest behaviours each day.<\/li>\n<li>Respect is often aligned with something you have earnt. Think about flipping this on its head. You get respect when you walk through the door. You don\u2019t have to earn it, you are given it. You can only lose that respect, you don\u2019t have to gain it.<\/li>\n<li>Think differently about your talent identification process both with regards to staff and players. We all want high quality performers but it\u2019s important to have diversity and then encourage them to be curious. That\u2019s where the best ideas come from.<\/li>\n<li>Coaching is become more sophisticated, so encourage creativity. Be prepared to adapt and always remain open-minded to new ideas and concepts that can give you a competitive edge.
