We explored how they\u2019ve achieved success across all three formats of the game through their approach to high performance and look at the importance of standards throughout the entire system.<\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Key Takeaways<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Decision making is complex, and not easy. As a leader, I\u2019d encourage you to keep pushing, keep driving to make a change \u2013 but make sure the team and dressing room is with you on that journey.<\/li>\n<li>Our sport as a whole is more popular through the introduction of the T20 format, which is great for cricket but bad for high performance. We end up trying to train an athlete for the 100m sprint and a marathon at the same time. Real challenge.<\/li>\n<li>Our system covers every player from 15 years old and up. But we have to decide which format of the sport is the best route for their development. Complex decision, lots of moving parts.<\/li>\n<li>The challenge for all of you as leaders is to set your own tone and measurements of success<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s about people, it\u2019s so inspirational when you focus on the people.<\/li>\n<li>To sustain success, development pathways are integral. Continue to develop ways in which to support and test those athletes that are ready to perform.<\/li>\n<li>Coaches are critical to facilitating the growth of young athletes, so creating environments that are competitive is the perfect vehicle for this.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Thinking Points<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. If the Australian cricket team is, \u201cAustralia\u2019s Team\u201d, consider how you can ensure alignment from each of the independent entities in the farm system, who are largely responsible for preparing and developing talent whilst pursuing their own success.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. As an organization, it\u2019s normal to have some oversight for staff, their roles and responsibilities, and to invest in assets accordingly. However, can you consider the benefits and obstacles of your talent working for three or four or five competitors to build their skills and be better when they are required to do their job for you?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3. Development pathways are critical for sustainability. Think about how you are going to stretch and support those that are ready to perform and create environments where variable experiences can prepare individuals for success in different conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">4. Competitive environments are crucial for the development and optimization of talent and coaches play a vital role in facilitating growth. Are there ways you can keep the mindset on improving skills and capacity rather than proving ability?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">5. What are the barriers to change in your organisation? How certain is the future direction of the sport and is this relevant\/valued in the same way by all stakeholders?
