Get it right and it can make the difference between winning and losing. It&#8217;s the same in the world of business where LJ Brock, the Chief People Officer at finance giants Citadel, must regularly scout for talent. He and Citadel have sought inspiration far and wide, from NASA and the US Navy to the NFL and elite sport and this has fashioned the process, which he shared with the audience at Soldier Field.<\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Key Takeaways<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Chief People Officer wrapped up the Sport Performance Summit discussing their approach to talent identification, assessing attributes and giving us an insight into the process they use (inspired by the Navy, NASA and the NFL) in evaluating young talent.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 In person interviews are about as effective as a flip of a coin. Getting any sort of real data out of them is very difficult. You\u2019re not only evaluating, but you\u2019re re-recruiting every 90 days.<br \/>\n\u2022 How are you thinking about identifying the best talent for your organisation? Have a look at best practice in other industries, there are bound to be lessons.<br \/>\n\u2022 What\u2019s the current makeup of your recruitment process? Does this process consider qualities such as analytical skill? How good of a teammate they will be? How will they perform under pressure?<br \/>\n\u2022 Create an environment when recruiting when candidates can show, as well as talk.<br \/>\n\u2022 If you\u2019re seeking elite talent, you need to realise that the recruitment process can always be improved. Don\u2019t stand still. How proactive are you being? The best organisations get the best people who perform under pressure.<br \/>\n\u2022 If you set a candidate and project, rather than just an interview, it will provide you with a richer depth of information on the person.
