This makes it relevant to them and creates a level of accountability around the need to take this seriously.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recognise &amp; Responsibility \u2013 <\/strong>Everyone needs to recognise and have a responsibility and role.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recruitment \u2013<\/strong> How often when we recruit new people is it focused on the organisations aims and goals as part of the process? There is always an absence of accountability or practicality around ED&amp;I.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be Bottom Up <\/strong>\u2013 Start bottom up to hear what team members want. Do people really know what we are talking about?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Core Messaging \u2013 <\/strong>Selfridges collated demographic data of their workforce to understand the shape of the organisation. There was a feeling of looking diverse on the front, but not the detail that sat behind it. There was a focus on understanding what and how do people feel about ED&amp;I. A cultural assessment was leveraged with quantitative and qualitative data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Behaviours \u2013 <\/strong>Work on behaviours with your staff. As an organisation it needs to be top down and bottom up. Make ED&amp;I a priority for everyone. If you want to be inclusive, be bottom up with informed resource.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Thinking Points<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li data-charcodes=\"65533,0,46\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"360\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">Observe first: taking a step back to understand what diversity means to\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">everyone in the\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">organisation<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">. It can be daunting but you\u00a0have to\u00a0start the\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">conversation.<\/span>\u200b<\/li>\n<li data-charcodes=\"65533,0,46\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"360\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">If we consider diversity as a strength, we need to think about which type\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">of diversity can help us to drive the\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">programme<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0we want to build. Some of\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">the most powerful dimensions of diversity are innovation and creativity.<\/span>\u200b<\/li>\n<li data-charcodes=\"65533,0,46\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"360\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">Diverse groups of problem-solvers consistently outperform the best and\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">brightest. Give your staff autonomy to create their own\u00a0work spaces\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">build flexibility into how they work.<\/span>\u200b<\/li>\n<li data-charcodes=\"65533,0,46\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"360\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">When talking about diversity, we need to reflect on which type of diversity\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">can bring the team to the next level whether that is gender, race, age,\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">nationality or educational background? Profiling the environment and\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">organisation<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0is important in identifying those.<\/span>\u200b<\/li>\n<li data-charcodes=\"65533,0,46\" data-buautonum=\"8\" data-margin=\"360\" data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">Commitment from the top: make sure there is buy in from the leadership\u00a0<\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\">and Board.
