The young students at RBS have have lost confidence, and have worried they have missed out on development. We have to focus on building their self-confidence back up.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Practice \u2013<\/strong> Students haven\u2019t actually been taught how to practice properly so we ensure that we integrate \u2018the practice process\u2019 into the curriculum. Within the RCM, we use simulation to help students to practice performance \u2013 creating a \u2018live\u2019 environment to practice, and even make mistakes if they need to. Obviously no repercussions, we encourage it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Performance \u2013<\/strong> There are so many elements to a dancer, physically and creatively. They push their bodies, and their minds, to the extremes. We train and manage these students into being adults. These development years are so important.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Health \u2013<\/strong> RBS have really focused and invested in the physical and mental health support \u2013 50% of injuries were prevented in the first year after they invested into this area. They\u2019ve also tapped into sport science a lot more. Dancers are performers but absolutely top athletes too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recruitment \u2013<\/strong> The RCM students are incredibly dedicated and hard-working, and are absolutely perfectionists. We do try and lead them to become healthy professionals rather than having an obsession with it. We encourage them to seek input and support too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expectation \u2013<\/strong> We have to relieve the expectations and pressures that is placed upon these talented young students, by themselves and also by external influences like parents.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transparency \u2013<\/strong> We try to educate the parents on the training programmes and integrate them into the journey of the student. We also encourage them to support the children in the correct way, and ensure the child feels comfortable being honest about when they are happy and unhappy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transitions \u2013<\/strong> Whether it\u2019s within music, dance or sport, one of the biggest challenges within talent development is helping these young people make that jump to the top level. Performance psychology is embedded within the organization, but we ensure that students are aware of this support from a young age, not just at the stage they are about to make that step up. We expose them to other musical organisations so they have an understanding of the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Culture \u2013<\/strong> We respect our heritage and our history. It\u2019s important for us to look outside our organization and \u2018not to sit still\u2019.
