Performance as a Vocation

Risa Steinberg, both faculty and Associate Director of Dance at The Juilliard School, has been an active member of the dance community for more than 35 years as a performer, teacher, re-constructor of the works of José Limón, and mentor to young choreographers. She has had the good fortune to travel the world performing and teaching extensively.

In dancing dedication must exceed talent. Risa Steinberg, Faculty and Associate Director of Dance at The Juilliard School of performing arts in New York, spoke to Performance about how the rigors and hardships of a high performance environment. She discusses the school’s selection process as well as its work developing the person as well as their talent.
