Steve Scebelo serves as VP, Licensing and Business Development for NFL Players Inc., the licensing and marketing arm of the NFL Players Association, which is the labour union for all active players in the NFL.

NFL Players Inc.’s main objective is to generate revenue on behalf of the players via group licensing (involving six or more players) and this is achieved through marketing, merchandising and sponsorship.

Scebelo’s role is two-fold; the licensing model revolves around working with the companies providing the bulk of revenue for players, including the likes of EA Sports, Fanatics and Panini as the three main licensing partners.

In this short interview, recorded behind the scenes at The Leaders Sport Business Summit during Leaders Week London in October 2018, Scebelo explains:

  • How the players get involved with the OneTeamCollective – the NFLPA’s designated startup accelerator;
  • The benefits for the companies that become part of the OneTeam Collective portfolio;
  • And the role innovation and technology play for the NFL Players Inc.

Innovation and technology are also two of the key themes underpinning The Leaders Tech Startup Competition which will take place on day two of the Leaders Sport Business Summit, 9 October at Twickenham Stadium in London. And the NFLPA will be partnering Leaders for the 3rd consecutive year, helping to unearth the groundbreaking new companies from around the world that will shape the future of sport.
