Run for the Oceans is a global movement that harnesses the power of sport to raise awareness about the threat of marine plastic pollution and inspire positive action against it. 2021’s edition was the 4th and largest ever, with more than 5 million participants contributing over 56 million kilometers to the cause.
From May 28 – June 8, 2021, athletes took part in a virtual event to help end plastic waste by tracking their runs, walks, and wheelchair activities in the adidas Running app. For every kilometer they logged, adidas and Parley cleaned up the equivalent weight of 10 plastic bottles, up to 500,000 pounds, from beaches and islands.

adidas contributed funds to support Parley’s Global Cleanup Operations, and Parley then used the funds to clean up marine plastic debris through its Global Cleanup Network. As Run For The Oceans only continues to gain momentum, we look forward to continuing the fight to help end plastic waste in 2022 and beyond.
