    Stockton-on-Tees has successfully managed to Beat the Street!<\/p>\n

    The community of Stockton on Tees took part in the Beat the Street challenge over six weeks in April and May 2022. More than 19,500 people (more than 10% of the local population) of all ages signed up to compete in the giant real-life game which encouraged participants to walk, cycle, run, wheel and roll as far as possible within the game framework. Together they clocked up a total of 197,477 active travel miles. Beat the Street is designed to get communities moving by helping people to make small changes, such as walking or cycling to school every day, to improve health and help embed physical activity into everyday life. So far more than 1.6 million people and 4,000 schools have taken part in games across the UK and beyond. The game was developed by Dr William Bird who is an expert on physical activity and evidence shows that the programme really helps adults and children become more active. As well as increasing low levels of physical activity amongst adults and children, the game also helps reduce congestion, improves air quality, and helps families spend time in green spaces together.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/div>\n \n \n \n <\/div>\n
