Since 1 June 2022, both parents must jointly decide on the surname, as it is a fundamental element of personal identity. Yet, in 2024, many Italians remain unaware of this right.<\/p>\n<p>To raise awareness, during the weekend of 12 May \u2013 coinciding with Mother\u2019s Day in Italy \u2013 AC Milan\u2019s male and female First Team players took the field wearing their mother\u2019s surname on their jerseys, instead of the paternal one to which everyone is accustomed. The idea, promoted by AC Milan in collaboration with Serviceplan Italia, was embraced by Lega Serie A and six other Serie A clubs, and received major media attention. Players also proactively supported the initiative by sharing content on their personal social media accounts.<\/p>\n<p>This marked a first in Italy and in international football, where such an initiative was used to shed light on a key social issue and promote greater gender equality.<\/p>\n<p>The Club identified specific levers to raise awareness on the right to choose one\u2019s surname. A mix of on-field and off-field activities was planned: the First Teams wore their mothers\u2019 surnames during matches, while the initiative was promoted across owned digital channels and earned media. Players, fans, celebrities, and opinion leaders shared native content, amplifying the message. Broadcasters and both traditional and digital media further extended its reach.<\/p>\n<p>By leveraging AC Milan\u2019s most valuable assets, promoting positive change and raising awareness about important social issues such as the personal identity of children, the initiative aligns with the Club\u2019s sustainability strategy and its long-standing commitment to equality, inclusion, and the
