autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n                                    <\/div>\n                                \n                            \n                                                            <div class=\"es-section__text content-area\">\n                                    <p><h4>Global imaging and electronics brand Ricoh has been, until this year at least, one of the most visible sponsors in women\u2019s sport.<\/h4>\n<h6>By James Emmett<\/h6>\n<p>The Japanese-headquartered firm have been the title sponsor of one the biggest tournaments on the women\u2019s professional golf calendar \u2013 the Ricoh Women\u2019s British Open \u2013 for the past 12 years.<\/p>\n<p>But the 2018 edition marked the final year of the company\u2019s involvement with the tournament, with the decision having been made not to renew the title rights.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bart Somsen, Head of Brand at Ricoh Europe, this year\u2019s edition represented a high watermark for the partnership, with record audience engagement figures driven by the exploits of a home-grown winner, young Englishwoman Georgia Hall winning her first Major; a result that was even more pleasing to Somsen and his team given that Hall herself is a personal ambassador for Ricoh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe always say you need to finish a party in full swing,\u201d Somsen said in an interview backstage at a Leaders XX Series think tank event earlier this year, \u201cand I think we\u2019ve done that with the Ricoh Women\u2019s British Open.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/leadersinsport.com\/sport-business\/whitepaper-the-rise-of-womens-sports\/\">Whitepaper: The rise of women&#8217;s sports<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/leadersinsport.com\/sport-business\/creating-commercial-blueprint-world-class-female-athlete\/\">Creating a commercial blueprint for world class female athletes<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Somsen, who is responsible for Ricoh\u2019s European sponsorship and events programme, is adamant that the 12-year partnership has exceeded Ricoh\u2019s initial objectives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the primary objectives 12 years ago was just to help us build our brand; we went through a number of acquisitions and we had a multi-brand, multi-channel strategy, with an idea to invest our brand identity into a single brand. The platform has greatly helped us to do that in core strategic markets where women\u2019s golf is huge.
