They also draw millions of viewers online and some of the world’s biggest brands as sponsors, and are now included in the X-Games. So how do the world’s most tech savvy and hard to reach fans choose to consume content, what are the successful models for distribution and fan engagement? Twitch launched in June 2011 and is the world’s leading video platform and community for gamers, winning back-to-back Webby Awards in 2012 and 2013, and is growing fast. Business Insider called Twitch “one of Silicon Valley’s Hottest startups.” Meanwhile the ESL Gaming network has more than 5,000,000 registered members and consists of over 1,000,000 teams, which have played over 22.5 million games.
