David Burt is the Director of Entrepreneurship at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) where he has helped thousands of people grow their ideas into ambitious new companies. Working in partnership with some of Australia’s most successful entrepreneurs, David’s “Venture Philanthropy” model has won multiple awards, including as the best business incubator in Australia.
Outside of his work at UNSW David advises several startup companies including Phyllome which uses robotics and genetics to create more sustainable food systems. David is also a Non-Executive Director on the board of the business incubator Cicada Innovations, as well as Australia’s most trusted environmental non-profit, the Planet Ark Environmental Foundation.
Before joining UNSW, David led a science commercialisation team at Australia’s national science agency, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). While at CSIRO David created a national technology accelerator that has created 73 new companies which have collectively attracted over $700M of funding to commercialise Australian research.
