Michael Bourne is Performance Director at the LTA.
The man responsible for ensuring a pipeline of British talent to the upper echelons of world tennis spoke about his role in delivering a programme based on ‘passion and care’.
Prior to joining the LTA he spent six years at UK Sport, undertaking a number of roles, including a period as Director of Performance, which included oversight of investment into Olympic and Paralympic sports in the UK. Whilst there, he was also responsible for the performance functions supporting elite athlete preparations towards the Games. Michael also spent five years working in the performance team of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Michael is currently a member of the Board of England Netball with board oversight responsibility for Elite netball, Anti-Doping and Clinical governance and a member of the Podium Analytics Expert Advisory Board.
Since joining the LTA Michael has worked on delivering the performance strategy across adult and junior tennis and wheelchair tennis which aims to build a pathway for champions and in doing so, make Great Britain one of the most respected nations in the world for player development. Michael has also worked closely with Executive colleagues to deliver an enhanced Performance Competitions Calendar since 2022, which has had a marked impact on player progression.
