Andrea Hirsch joined the United States Tennis Association, the National Governing Body of the Sport of Tennis, and the owner and operator of the US Open Tennis Championships, in April of 2006 as General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer. Over the course of her 18 years with the Association, she has been promoted to Chief Administrative Officer and in June, 2022, to Chief Operating Officer.
In her role, Hirsch provides day-to-day leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure USTA has the proper administrative and operational procedures and people in place to further its mission of growing tennis to inspire healthier people and communities everywhere. She directly oversees all Shared Service functions for the USTA, including Content and Communications, Digital & Technology, Strategy, Legal and Business Affairs, Risk Management, and the USTA’s Foundation. Hirsch also leads the USTA’s Integrity Program efforts, including all policies and procedures regarding athlete safety.
Behind the scenes, Hirsch is intricately involved in the myriad of operations that underpin the USTA’s success on both the domestic and international stages. She has played a crucial role managing complex legal matters and corporate transactions all while safeguarding the company’s legal and ethical standards. She also works closely with and supports the USTA Board of Directors, providing guidance and counsel on a wide range of strategic and operational matters affecting the Association.
While at the USTA, Hirsch’s contributions have been many. She has helped to define and guide countless major initiatives, including the development and oversight of the construction of the 100-court USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida and the USTA’s enterprise-wide digital transformation. Hirsch also managed the development and implementation of the complex policies that enabled the US Open to operate as the first major sporting event during the COVID pandemic and was a key member of the team responsible for the redesign and construction of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. She remains an integral part of the re-imagination and roll out of the Association’s new long-term growth strategy. And she managed countless acquisitions and sales of key assets.
Prior to joining the USTA, Hirsch served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Columbia House Company, the largest direct marketer of movies and music, where she had management responsibility for home video and record label relationships, public relations, consumer and legal affairs, human resources, and real estate. She also served as Executive Vice President of Business Development and General Counsel for the internet service provider Prodigy Communications Corporation and spent over ten years in the publishing industry at Simon & Schuster and Macmillan Publishing.
Hirsch is a magna cum laude graduate of the City University of New York, Queens College, with a degree in Communications Arts and Sciences and holds a Juris Doctor degree from American University, Washington College of Law, where she was a member of the Editorial Board of the Law Review.
