Sanjog Gupta heads the Sports portfolio for Star & Disney India supporting its linear (Star Sports) & non-linear platforms (Disney+ Hotstar) platforms. Star & Disney India is the nation’s leading sports broadcaster and one of the world’s largest, serving more than 600+ million viewers across TV & Digital. His mandate, as part of managing the business, includes content, marketing, production, Tech R&D, revenue, and strategy.
With nearly two decades of varied experience in media & entertainment, Sanjog has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of Sports broadcasting in India. Viewer segmentation and the advent of the “mega-cast” entailing multiple customised live broadcast feeds, serving different consumer cohorts, record viewership for Cricket properties such as IPL & ICC, launch of Regional Sports Networks, multi-sport focus with the emergence and scale-up of Kabaddi (an indigenous contact sport professionalised in 2014) and launch of leagues such as ISL (Football) have been key drivers of growth for the sports ecosystem in India. He has also championed grassroots development in sports launching new sporting properties such as KBD Juniors (inter-school Kabaddi) and partnering with the Government of India to launch Khelo India, which seek to drive youth participation & excellence in Sports.
Delivery of interactive experiences and deployment of live AR/VR – both world firsts – on Star Sports’ Cricket broadcasts and the use of state-of-the-art production technology have been crucial milestones in his vision of putting Star & Disney India at the forefront of delivering path-breaking consumer experiences. Sanjog remains committed to his stated mission of making India a sporting nation and to the future of sports experiences through an interplay of technology and creativity.
Sanjog also serves as the Chairperson of the Sports & Youth Affairs Committee at FICCI (India’s oldest and most reputed business forum) and was recently named on the Fortune “40 under 40” list of Entrepreneurs & Business minds.
