Jassim Abdulaziz Al Jassim is a distinguished leader in the football and mega-event industry who served as the Chief Executive Officer for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™. In this role, Jassim oversaw all aspects of the tournament, including strategic planning, budget management, operational delivery, marketing, communications, fan engagement, host country operations, and stakeholder management. Under his leadership, the event achieved record-breaking attendance, the widest broadcast reach, and unprecedented fan and media engagement, making it the best AFC Asian Cup edition to date.
Prior to this, Jassim was the Chief Operating Officer for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. He managed key functional areas that were instrumental in the successful delivery of the first FIFA World Cup™ held in the Arab world and Middle East, setting new standards for future editions.
Jassim’s career began with his involvement in Qatar’s journey toward hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022™ as a volunteer. He rose through various roles, from Assistant Venue Manager to Venue Operations and Overlay Director, managing venue operations for multiple tournaments including the Arabian Gulf Cup, FIFA Club World Cup™, CAF Super Cup, Amir Cup, FIFA Arab Cup™, and AFC Champions League. He also participated in observation programs and assignments in global tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014™, FIFA World Cup Russia 2018™, and UEFA Euro 2016.
Jassim holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Business from Stenden University. He furthered his studies at Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, earning a Master’s in Leadership. His master’s thesis and research focused on the social impacts of mega-sports events, showcasing
Jassim’s interest in pursuing academic research around sports events management and the organization of mega-events.
