Editorial concept:

Goal Arena is a ready-to-air live format for Bundesliga’s international media partners that switches to the most exciting incidents and decisive moments in up to five concurrent matches (9 games on Matchday 34). From scoring chances, thrilling tackles and other dramatic events, launched for the 2023/24 season.

An English host and the world feed commentators guide the audience through the 90 minutes. However, partners can localise the show for their respective audiences, e.g. Viaplay offers Polish, Danish and Finnish language versions in their respective territories, and so does DAZN in Portugal.

The editorial pre-match rundown provides context and team line-ups, while the editorial focus after the first and second half is mainly on highlights, results overview and league table. Goal Arena is enhanced by graphics including an L-frame displaying live scores and tables to enrich the viewer’s experience.

Every matchday Goal Arena thrills the international audience with the best action from every stadium – a truly unique viewing experience.

Technical concept

Goal Arena was concepted within the DFL Group. With the help of the production system provided by Riedel Communications, and graphics from Singular Live, the show came alive. Finally, Goal Arena is distributed free of charge to international licensees via livestreams, made possible by the cloud solution from AWS, the DFL´s long-standing technology partner.

The result is a streamlined and innovative set-up that enables a scalable and cost-effective production.

Results

From the 23/24 season onwards, an average of 17 media partners took advantage of Goal Arena on Saturdays, including ESPN, Sony Pictures Networks, Viaplay Group and many more. The peak was reached on MD 34, when 28 media partners broadcasted Goal Arena on the final weekend of the season, with 9 matches being shown simultaneously. Goal Arena was broadcasted in more than 140 countries around the world.
