Don Garber has spent his entire career in the sports industry, working in a variety of capacities in marketing, television and League administration. The Commissioner of Major League Soccer since 1999, Garber’s vision and leadership have enabled MLS to build a strong foundation for professional soccer in the United States.
In 2001, Garber restructured MLS and spearheaded the formation of Soccer United Marketing (SUM), a company owned by MLS investors that is the preeminent commercial soccer entity in North America. SUM not only represents properties such as the U.S. Soccer Federation, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL, but has managed North American tours for some of the world’s most prestigious clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester United.
Don has been listed among the most influential people in American sports by Time Magazine and Business Week, and has been named among the top 50 most influential people in sports business by the SportsBusiness Journal every year since 2005, and was elected into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2016.
