The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship brings intense, dramatic all-electric racing to the heart of iconic cities around the world, and is an unparalleled proving ground for race-to-road transfer of electric vehicle technologies.
FE exists to accelerate sustainable human progress through the power of electric racing. The only sport certified Net Zero Carbon (NZC) since inception, FE was founded to counteract climate change by accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles.
As a signatory of the UN Climate Neutral Now initiative, FE followed three steps to achieving this: measurement of carbon output since the inaugural season, footprint reduction and offsetting remaining unavoidable emissions. These are certified according to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and/or the Gold Standard (GS), following regulations outlined in the Kyoto Protocol by the UN Climate Change Secretariat.

The impact reaches far beyond environmental with each contributing social benefits to local communities, contributing to FE’s positive legacy in host cities as well as driving economic benefits through advancements in renewable energy. See website section here for more information.
Examples of reduction measures that FE have implemented include:
Freight – regional calendar, multiple sea freight sets and sustainable transport with a potential reduction in freight emissions of approx.. 45%);
Spectators – no parking and public transport encouraged reducing spectator footprint by 30-50%;
Food – 30% vegetarian options provided, local sourcing and sustainable packaging;
Operations – 300,000 single use-plastic bottles avoided by using Hydration Stations and reusable pouches;
Cars – production and end of life included within footprint, 100% hybrid, recycled tyres, battery end-of-life and carbon fibre recycling.
FE are committed to carbon neutrality and will continue to strengthen their approach, including the expansion and automation of their Lifecycle Assessment process, third-party verification of their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory and aligning onto climate science to achieve further reductions.
