Nielsen Sports' Jerome Quartey discusses his first career break and the fundamental goal that fuels him with Facebook's Anna Chanduvi.

In the latest instalment of the Chain Conversations series, Facebook’s Anna Chanduvi talks to Nielsen Sports’ Jerome Quartey.

Having been interviewed by Liverpool’s Katerina Tornari in the previous episode of the series, Facebook’s Sports Media Partnerships Lead for EMEA Anna Chanduvi takes up the mantle to talk to Jerome Quartey, Head of Marketing for Nielsen Sports in Europe.

Quartey studied marketing communications at university before joining Nielsen Sports in its previous incarnation as Repucom in 2014. He has risen through the marketing ranks at the measurement and intelligence firm – “surviving a takeover” in the process – and became Head of Marketing for Europe in 2019.

The conversation covers:

  • The struggle to break into employment, post-university;
  • Quartey’s big break: a personal recommendation from a friend in athletics;
  • The recruitment process from LinkedIn messaging through to interview and probation period;
  • Conquering the fear of failure and the value of making mistakes;
  • The source of Quartey’s determination to succeed: his goal of being the change he wants to see;
  • How to create a professional environment where everyone feels comfortable, and everyone can flourish.

Chain Conversations is part of the Leaders Meet: Diversity Series, in partnership with Facebook.

The programme brings together leaders from a variety of backgrounds across professional sport to share their personal stories of leadership and to reflect on their own career journeys, pinpointing the peaks and troughs, the helps and hinderances along the way.

Every other week the previous interviewee will become the interviewer as we hear inspiring stories from aspiring and senior leaders within the professional sports industry.

The aim is to inspire, to energise, and to showcase why diverse thinking – and diverse opportunity – makes for better business across sport and beyond.
