Facebook’s Head of Global Sports Partnerships discusses why sport is a great fit for the platform and how Facebook plans to help broadcasters and rights-holders reinvent the way they’re distributing content and engaging with their fans.
In this role, Reed manages strategic partnerships with sports leagues, teams, athletes, broadcasters and publishers around the world, helping them connect with fans and build innovative social experiences that drive their business. Reed joined Facebook after a 10-year career at the National Basketball Association where, as President of the NBA Development League, he led a turnaround of the NBA’s minor league into a financially valuable property and a thriving talent development system.
In this short interview, Reed discusses how Facebook’s mission to bring the world closer together aligns with sport because it is inherently social, tribal and creates common bonds. Reed explains how Facebook wants to help broadcasters and rights-holders reinvent the way they’re distributing content and engaging with the 650 million sports fans on the platform. And finally, how Facebook’s global platform also provides these organisations with the ability to integrate the social experience into the actual broadcast.
