The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) President on dealing with multiple challenges at the organisation, strategies for navigating sports politics, and the key principles for implementing change.
Coe is also Chancellor of Loughborough University, Executive Chairman of CSM Sport and Entertainment and a member of the IOC Tokyo 2020 Coordination Committee and council member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations.
Before being elected IAAF President, Coe was Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, having previously been Chairman of the London 2012 bid company. A middle distance runner in his early career, he competed at the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 where he won gold in the 1500m and silver in the 800m, a feat repeated in Los Angeles in 1984. He retired from competitive athletics in 1990 having set 12 world records during his career.
Interviewed backstage at the Leaders Sport Business Summit in New York in March, Coe discusses dealing with multiple challenges at the organisation, strategies in navigating sports politics, and the key principles for implementing change, including ‘the triangle of trust’.
