India’s first lady of sport.
Nita Ambani is India’s first lady of sport. She was raised in a middle-class Gujarati family in Mumbai and became a Bharatanatyam dance teacher which is where she met her future, Mukesh Ambani, who became Chairman of Reliance Industries, the multinational conglomerate.
Through Reliance, Nita was able to setup a number of charitable foundations which have made a real impact on improving the lives of children through education and sport.
Ambani is a member of the International Olympic Committee, the first Indian woman to be elected to the IOC. She is the architect and co-owner of the Mumbai Indians, the most successful team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and Founding Chairperson of Football Sports Development Limited that launched the Indian Super League, which is transforming football in India.
We caught up with Ambani backstage at the Leaders Sport Business Summit last year as she detailed her philosophies behind successful leadership and why the time is right for international sports properties to invest in India.
