As part of our activations in celebration of Black History Month, the annual celebration of the history, achievements and contributions of members from the black community, we kick-off with a candid conversation between Emile Heskey, Former Professional Footballer & Mentor, Leicester City W.F.C, and Jaydee Dyer, Presenter & Broadcaster, Sky Sports.
Emile had an illustrious playing career spanning two-decades that saw him represent teams including Leicester City, Liverpool and the England National team, amassing 62 international caps, 130 career goals, and appearing in more than 500 matches in the Premier League and Football League. Currently an ambassador for Leicester City Women, a role that sees him act as a mentor to the players as the outfit transitions to a full-time professional club, Emile speaks with Sky Sports’ Jaydee about the successes and challenges of his career, as well as addressing the hard truths facing football from grassroots up to the elite level.
The interview covers:
• Career successes
• Experiences with racism when playing/coaching, and how he overcame it
• The lack of opportunities for BAME coaches/leaders within high performance teams
• The work being done to increase diversity within sports performance
