There’s no denying that building the greatest place to work on the planet is a lofty goal, but Scott O’Neil’s ambition stems from the culture that’s he’s shaped at Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE).

As Chief Executive of HBSE, the parent company of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and assorted other properties including New Jersey’s Prudential Center and esports outfit Team Dignitas, O’Neil is widely acknowledged as one of sport’s most forward-thinking senior leaders.

He has developed a reputation for building inspiring working cultures:  ‘Trust the process” and “being palms up” are just two of the phrases that he utilises at HBSE to do so.

In this video, recorded behind the scenes at The Sport Business Summit during Leaders Week New York in May, O’Neil explains:

  • What the objectives are for creating the “greatest place on earth to work”.
  • What the first three weeks in the organisation are like for new starters.
  • What he’s learned about ‘the process”.
  • And looking back, what would he do differently personally in helping to create the best workplace in the world.

And you can hear from Scott in person at The Leaders Sport Business Summit in Shanghai on 18 July, where he’ll be discussing how innovation and culture are at the core of everything the 76ers do and what that looks like in action.

As CEO of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), he leads the 76ers organisation in the NBA, its Prudential Center arena, the New Jersey Devils NHL team, the Sixers Innovation Lab, and esports outfit Team Dignitas.
