TEAM Marketing’s Kate Sloane speaks to CONCACAF’s Jason Roberts in latest Leaders Meet: Diversity Series Chain Conversation.

Having spoken with Vero Communications Chair Dame Heather Rabbatts in the previous instalment in the series, Kate Sloane, Senior Commercial Affairs Executive at TEAM Marketing, takes charge of the next link in the chain – this time speaking with CONCACAF’s Director of Development, Jason Roberts MBE.

Jason was named Director of Development at CONCACAF in November 2017, following a career in professional football spanning 5 English Premier League clubs. At CONCACAF, Jason is focused on managing and strengthening the Confederation’s core development programs including grassroots, coaching education, and professional football development initiatives. Roberts also established the Jason Roberts Foundation (JRF) in 2007, which provides young people opportunities to learn and build confidence through sport in both the UK and the Caribbean.

The conversation covers:

  • Jason’s role as Director of Development at CONCACAF
  • Football for social change across the region
  • The increase in competition across CONCACAF countries that underpins so much of the work
  • The Jason Roberts Foundation and how it helps challenge inequality
  • Education and the importance of creating and promoting a full range of opportunities in sport to young people
  • Sport’s crossroads moment and the need to bring the apparent diversity in participation to the administrative side
  • Puncturing the ‘hard work’ myth and how to recognise and check privilege
  • Inspirational leaders and what makes them different

Chain Conversations is part of the Leaders Meet: Diversity Series, in partnership with Facebook.

The programme brings together leaders from a variety of backgrounds across professional sport to share their personal stories of leadership and to reflect on their own career journeys, pinpointing the peaks and troughs, the helps and hinderances along the way.

Every other week the previous interviewee will become the interviewer as we hear inspiring stories from aspiring and senior leaders within the professional sports industry.

The aim is to inspire, to energise, and to showcase why diverse thinking – and diverse opportunity – makes for better business across sport and beyond.
