“Authentic relationships where you get to share, where you get to learn, where you get to build something cool together, and maybe that you find some synergies, is really the best kind of networking.”

That’s according to Lenah Ueltzen-Gabell, Wasserman’s Managing Director for EMEA, who shared her personal sports industry story alongside Leaders’ Hannah Redfern to kick off Season 2 of the Chain Conversation Series.

Lenah is an active member of the sports and entertainment industry, beginning her career in marketing partnerships at the NBA where she gained a wealth of experience in US Basketball. Since joining Wasserman in 2008, Lenah has successfully overseen the commercial side of the agency’s business, and her work has spanned various long-term partnerships with brands including American Express, RSM & PepsiCo.

In this conversation with Leaders’ Hannah Redfern, Lenah details how she progressed from the NBA into her current role at Wasserman, and highlights the importance of learning from the experiences of others along the way. “Don’t be afraid to ask and don’t be afraid to make those connections,” Lenah says when discussing her experience of forging pivotal relationships within the industry.

Other topics on the agenda were:

  • Wasserman’s goals for 2021
  • Managing relationships in a changing environment
  • Identifying good leaders
  • Wasserman’s diversity plans
  • Future opportunities for the industry

Chain Conversations is part of the Leaders Meet: Diversity Series, in partnership with Facebook.

The programme brings together leaders from a variety of backgrounds across professional sport to share their personal stories of leadership and to reflect on their own career journeys, pinpointing the peaks and troughs, the helps and hinderances along the way.

Every other week the previous interviewee will become the interviewer as we hear inspiring stories from aspiring and senior leaders within the professional sports industry.

The aim is to inspire, to energise, and to showcase why diverse thinking – and diverse opportunity – makes for better business across sport and beyond.
